I've decided to lay my laminate flooring myself. All 1100 square feet of it. My first task is to level the floor in the back room. I got it down relatively easily today and I'm waiting on the self leveler to dry. While I was back there, I noticed a couple of pieces of the plywood are not perfectly even. Is there a way to sand it down or am I gonna have to buy another container of self leveling concrete? The problem is that they don't butt up together evenly but the floor looks relatively level in that spot other than where the wood meets. Help!

First thing, put a few screws i along the joint between the sheets. If that doesn't pull it down flush, you can either use some leveler, or depending upon yur underlayment, go right over it. Some of those floating floors will cover differences in floor height of up to a quarter inch ans long as the floor is running perpendicular to the disparity. P.S.: I told you not to use that stuff.

Hmm, I will try the screws.
I had to use the self leveler. It was the only way I could do it on my own. When my new floors are down, you will be proud of me despite the self leveler. ;D

What kind of underlayment are you using?

What kind of underlayment are you using? Some type of squishy foam looking stuff. I ordered a more expensive type from lumber liquidators because I heard the cheap stuff isn't that great. I'm worried about doing the doorways but I also bought plenty of the t boards.

That self leveler can be a bitch. If you over mix, you get too much air in the product and it tends to be "not so much a leveler", and sanding down would be a bitch. Depending where the stud is for the sheet, if you don't have something to screw too, you could always "screw sideways" to the sheet beside it. I love my floors sugar, Fredo doesn't know what he's talking about

I love my floors sugar, Fredo doesn't know what he's talking about I think there is a beam running under where I need to screw to. Now, I guess I'll have to learn how to work a fancy electric screwdriver, won't I? Next weekend, I'll be on to the skill saw. :woot: Yeah, I ignored Fredo when he said don't use the self leveler and the laminate is what I need and can afford right now. Father in law had already replaced and evened out the subflooring as much as he could so I really didn't feel like I had a choice. There was like a 1/4 inch slope. I made sure to use the primer so it should be ok.

Soooooooooo, I got my hands on an electric belt sander and sanded down the place where the subfloor was uneven.
Ummm, are electric sanders supposed to spark when you use them? :paranoid:
Anyway, the floor is ready for the foam and laminate now. ;D

It depends upon the source of the sparks.
From under the belt- No problem
From around the trigger- Big problem. ;D

Nana, here is your picture. I didn't bother to pick the cack up off of the floor because I want it to look as crappy as possible so everyone will be impressed with my handy work on the floors. *snicker* We start them on Saturday.

Floor day 1: This is slow going. It's gonna take forever to do the entire house by myself. Everytime I get frustrated, I think about how much money I am saving. I am cheap. ;D
