One of my hard drives isn't being recognized by my system and I need the files off one of the partitions of this drive. How much will it cost me to recover the data off this partition?

Has it really "crashed" or does it not recognize the drive? Is it that windows doesn't recognize it? Have you checked the CMOS? Have you checked the BIOS to make sure nothing has changed the configurations?
Did you get any error messages at all?

it doesn't recognize it and the computer froze up yesterday when I was working on a program. The drive is split into two partitions H and J, both aren't being recognized even after doing a two system restores. Plus the system did a chkdsk and I think that it might have messed it up but trying to delete a few of the index files. Hell, I did a anti-virus scan and nothing could be found.

Have you tried whacking it on the side with a blunt instrument?

Fredo there is no way in heck, I am going to do that this system after spending over 7 years and around $10,000 just to get it in this config. That also includes replacing motherboards, hard drives and video cards.

Why don't you try that computer repair place on Dayton Blvd?

Fredo, your system is a generic. Mine is something that I customized. I doubt that they can do data recovery.

So does mine since I have 5 other hard drives to handle the load. It's just that this one drive has alot of irreplaceable data. I did some checking around and some of these places wants around $500 for starters and go up to $2500. I did find a few that cost around $279 to do the same job.

Heh, you guys are funny ANYWHOM>.....................Wildman, when you boot up, have you checked in DOS or setup that the drive is still there. I know, Windows can lose a drive, but just because windows doesn't see it doesn't mean you can't get to it. My best guess, is that in the BIOS, some config have been changed accidentally. It may not even see it because of it having been labeled as a slave drive and "no show" on boot up. Check your device manager, do you see it there? Do F2 on boot and see it there? It would be a shame to remove the drive and take it somewhere to recover files if their is no reason to. I am not sure how much someone would charge, but probably not too cheap. It could also be as simple as a bad ribbon cable that just needs to be replaced. 12 bucks and back to normal.

Why would someone need a $10,000 personal computer?

Why would someone need a $10,000 personal computer? Why would someone with a $10 grand computer with "irreplaceable data" not have some kind of backup system. Any drive can go down at any time. I've got a backup removeable drive on my POS Dell at home (about $80).

I think it's better if you don't have any computers Bobby. You'll just get into trouble.
