I have time to type in this shopping trip I had recently.
With your CVS card, Tresemme products were 3 for $10. You got $5 in EBCs back (register bucks you use on next purchase). CVS also had a coupon for $4 off a $20 purchase on beauty products. I also had, 6 $1 off coupons for Tresemme. So, count down. Bought $20 in shampoo and conditioner, used $ 4 off $20 purchase, used $6 worth of coupons ($1 off each item) and I am now down to $10.00. I used my ECB bucks from my last trip......final cost $1 and some cents. PLUS I got $10 back in ECBS (because of the $5 ECB for every $10 in Tresemme you purchased).
So, did a second ring up. Bought ACT total care mouthwash (was on sale for $4.99, had $1 off coupon)(got $2.00 in EBCs back), bought crest total care (on sale for $2.89, had $1 off coupon, got $2.89 back in ECBs) and bought Edge infusion shave gel (on sale for $2.00 and got $2.00 back in ECBs) Total was $7.88 plus tax....before ECBs....used my $10 in ECBs to pay. Got back $1.50 and $6.89 in more ECBs.......total price $ ZERO, plus got $1.50 and $6.89 in ECBs back...(they paid me to shop) So, third purchase. Another crest total care toothpaste (sometimes they have more than one you can do)....$2.89......used $2.89 in ECBs....total price $ZERO and got back my $2.89 ECB I just used........................
see the pattern?
That entire trip, which took me about 30 minutes, shopping time and check out..........cost me $1 and somewhat cents.

Oh, be sure to check around the store, alot of times they have stuff on sale with ECBs you don't see advertised. Latest item I saw was the new Oil of Olay skin vitalizer. I had thought once of getting one, but not at $12.99.............well, they had it on sale for $4.00!!!! Guess what, I had two $3.75 cent off coupons from oil of olay. I did two purchases and got both, original $12.99 items for a little more than a .25 A PIECE.................FYI, it is awesome, I am in love!

FYI...........if you sign up your CVS extra care card ONLINE at www.CVS.com, you get 2% back for everything you spend during a season. They only count "spending" as what you REALLY paid , after coupons, ECBS and such. But, 2% of something, is still something. Also, on there web site, it gives you a chance to get more coupons from them. Now, another little known gimme. When you walk into the CVS, ever see those stand alone scanners that look like price checkers? Those are actually coupon givers. You scan your card and as long as they have paper in them!, you receive coupons, such as $5 off a $15 purchase, etc.

I use my card on rare occasions there. I say rare because most of our shopping is done at Wally World. I'm too lazy to do all that other stuff you mention! ;D

Your laziness is making you over PAY! I would you of all people , Raph, would be on top of this. After all, it is getting around paying full price, ever, for anything you might use. If I did vitamins, n such, there were many weeks, I could of gotten those for free also! That's OK though, you be lazy, and I'll get mine cheap and free

You say you get a lot of stuff free exactly how much time and effort do you think you have in this endeavor? One thing I do buy at CVS when they have buy one get one free is their el cheapo fish oil. ;D

For me, as busy as I am, completely worth my hour and 30 minutes. But that is my extreme shopping. I NEVER use to do coupons, but now, btw the stores doubling them and CVS shopping, damn skippy I do. You haven't heard of the recession Raph ;D $60.00 would buy you a drink or two on your cruise

I dug my old CVS card out today. I have to go online to change my address though. I stopped using them more as a matter of convenience than anything. There aren't any CVS stores on my regular routes. I told my daughter about it and I am proud to say that she already knew about it.
I am always bargain shopping but it is easier to feed the two of us than when there were kids around every day. If I am going to have youngsters in the house I have to make a special trip to the store. Dang kids can eat you out of house & home.

There are still lots of good makeup buys at the Kmart store that is closing. They are redeeming coupons too. So I got Rimmel Mascara for $2. and cover girl shadows for $1.49.. Good buys , if you need to replenish your cosmetics.

Here was an easy scenario from southernsavers.com If you are new to this, this is simple, Take note of her total out of pocket for all the items listed!
#1 Buy: (1) Zantrex $4.99 ea (1) Colgate Max Fresh $2.99 ea Use: -$1 off Colgate Max Fresh Total Due: $6.98, pay with $6.49 ECB from previous week and .49¢ Get Back: $6.99 ECB
#2 Buy: (2) Adidas $3.99 ea (1) Listerine Total Care $3 Use: (2) -$1 off Adidas -$2 off Total Care Total Due: $6.98, pay with ECB from #1 (ask cashier to enter it for $6.98) Get Back: $6 ECB
#3 Buy: (2) Gillette Shampoo $5 ea (2) Old Spice Deodorant $2.50 ea (1) Pantene Fusion Shampoo Use: B1G1 Gillette coupon -$1 off Gillette coupon $2/2 Old Spice coupon -$1 off Pantene Fusions coupon Total Due: $6, pay with ECB from #2
Total Value Purchased: $38.96 Total out of pocket: .49¢ ea ECB remaining: none
Now, if you didn't have the ECB to start with , add $6.49 to your total out of pocket. So, $6.98 for ALL the items listed above. Taken for granted you would the coupons to match up. They are easy to find usually.

502, there are lots of good deals this week at CVS. I have a $4 off of $20. So I will be on my way shortly. Which coupon website do you use most?

Yeah, i saw they had some pretty cheap stuff I could stock up on for nothing! I just use the website www.southernsavers.com they match up all the coupons for me and have links to printable ones next to the sale item. I have my coupons all set up that i get from the paper, by date , so i just match up there dates for these. i don't have to hunt them all down then I went to publixs the other day and spent $15.00 out of pocket on about $60 dollars worth of food!!!!!!! Went to bi-lo and took in my coupons and spent about $4 out of pocket on $30 worth of stuff. on that website, if you look at the top, they have each store listed under its own link, just click on the one you want

The CVS sale starting Sunday,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, easy peasy....all the coupons are out of the same paper dated for 6/6..........if you don't have ECB bucks from before you will pay a little out of pocket... buy the gillette proglide razor $9.97...use the $4 coupon from P&G (6/6)...total is $5.97 plus tax....get back $5 ECB Then buy the Pantene PRO-V on sale 2/$6.97...use $1 off 2 coupon from P&G (6/6) and total is $5.97 plus tax....use the $5 ECB and you're down to .97 plus tax....get back $2 ECB Then buy Colgate total toothpaste for $2.99 use $1 coupon from SS (6/6)...total $1.99 plus tax..use the $2 ECB from above....total is just tax (about .19 cents) get back $2 ECB......then do that transaction again............. You wind up with $2 ECB for your next trip Grand total for Gillette razor, 2 pantene pro-v, and 2 colgate total toothpastes will be about $7.00 out of pocket.........and you have $2 ECB to buy something else. this past week I scored big. ..... spent about $ 4 out of pocket and left with $19 ECBs......this will be my totally free week FYI, if you go to a CVS that is not a 24 hour store, you can generally do both weeks sales after 5 pm on Saturdays.......those are good for doubling up

IF you do want to do this weeks (which ends on Saturday) Your best bets will be to do the gillette or old spice body washes. There are B1G1 coupons in 6/6 P&G. These are priced at $4 each. You buy two, use the B1G1 coupon, pay about $4 something with tax, get back.....$ 8 in ECBS!!! You just doubled your money You could then use the $8 ECB and buy the razor (without coupon) and pay about $10....use the $ 8 ECB and your total out of pocket will be about $ 2.............then get back the $ 5 ECBs...so you just earned $3 dollars (technically). The right guard deodorants are B1G1 this week , priced at $ 3.97 (these are the total defense 5)....there are $3/2 coupons online. You use that coupon and the total is .97 cents plus tax for 2 deodorants!

Remember....CVS ECBs are like cash to them. You can purchase anything except for lottery, gift cards and scrips. You can use as many as you have to pay for a purchase. In TN though, it won't let you pay the tax, after coupons.

What's an ECB?
|
|
|
Post by 502blue on Jun 18, 2010 11:55:46 GMT -5
It is an Extra Care Buck...........they run various sales week to week that pay you back when you make a purchase. For example,....if you spend $10 on Loreal, you get $5 ECB back. This is all BEFORE coupons....so your use of coupons could bring your total down to $3 (real money) and you get the $5 ECB back (CVS money)....the best way to explain it...is CVS is another planet and you are only allowed to spend their currency It prints out at the end of your receipt, tear it off, and then do another transaction using it to pay...........or wait. They don't expire for a month.
