Why? That building is not particularly architecturally impressive and it's just a brick shell remaining anyway. My guess is that they know if they tear it down, they'll have to adhere to modern setback requirements and the property will be worth a lot less.

I"m actually glad to see it go. He just needs to deal with it and move on. Gaining a little bit of parking would be an asset.

I called BS on it because I don't see anyway to rebuild a building that is demolished to that degree. Glad I'm not an expert! I just rode through part of Red Bankistan and saw quite a bit of damage with EPB and all sorts of contractors scurrying about. Looked like a big ole mess to me.

True. He could make much more off of a pay parking lot than he ever would from that building. As if we need more of those! From what I know about what goes on around here it will be a mixed use building. The word we had late last year is that a French restaurant was going to be there and an out of town investor had been secured for a full rebuild. I don't know what will happen next. I just hope they provide at least a small amount of parking for whatever they do with it. When there are events around here people park in some crazy places. They wouldn't even let Subway rent across the street from that building because of the long term plans for the area.

No parking means no customers.

They really do need to do something about the parking in that area if they're going to keep trying to build it up.

They really do need to do something about the parking in that area if they're going to keep trying to build it up. That or put up a shuttle service like historic downtown Annapolis. Parking is very limited down in the area that fans out from the City Dock and the is nowhere to improve upon that due to the historic aspect. So, you can park for free at the Navy Stadium and take the shuttle down to where everything is. Great move.

It is about 3 blocks from my house and also FREE -- folks around this town won't walk more than 2 blocks without complaining. we (me and most of my neighbors) walk or bike every chance we get ... the bike rider vs auto driver drama around here can be intense but i digress. this area is a mixed gentrified residential/ business/ hood with gobs of mountain money working behind the scenes. the long term plan that we saw initially was a 5 years and we are 18 months away from the end of the 5 years. ..

Yes. I've heard the lamentations of one WarKittycat on the bike v. auto issues. WK is a serious biker and observes the rules and etiquette of the road. I respect those bikers b/c they are moving on and respectful of autos. What we have 2 types of cyclist around here. There are groups of 3-10 gen-x and younger types who pedal around on old bikes blocking traffic and creating general havoc. The girls are often wearing skirts and there is often a faux-hawked young man with an old school boom box attached to the back of his bike blasting gawd knows what kind of music. I pray this fad will soon pass. I've even seen them pulling babies while talking on cell phones. Next on the list is the homeless man who's been doled a bike by a group of people who collect old bikes, fix them up and pass them out to the "homeless". Some have bikes laden with their belongings and just take it slow on the sidewalks and they arent' that much of a hazard. Then there are the guys on the same free bike plan who weave in and out of traffic at excessive speeds and don't observe ANY traffic regs .. I've nearly hit several of them, scaring the hell out of me and my passengers. WHEW .. rant over!

Both the bikers and the drivers around here are a fantastically inconsiderate lot. My personal favorites are the ones who pass me on the right when I'm just about to make a right turn. When I eventually squish one of them, the bikers will be all up in arms about it like it's my fault.

Trust me when I say that the weather made for a miserable walk down the Market Street sidewalk with speakers, lights and equipment...3 times... I was soaked...kept the gear dry though!
