Hey guys. A friend of mine's son, Braden (19 mos old), was in a bon-fire accident last week while at his mother's house. The doctor's say he has burned roughly 25% of his body. He is currently in a burn center in Augusta, GA. Bart's Lakeshore will a host a fundraising event on Sunday, April 3 to raise money to help with Braden's care. There will be a poker run, silent auctions, and food specials. If you guys can come out and support Braden, and his dad, Mike, we would greatly appreciate it. Mike is in touch with a few folks that would like to assist with the on-going treatments that Braden will need, but if anyone can offer anything else, please let me know. As of right now, he has been told to call the Shriners in Lexington, KY or Greenville, SC, or visit patientreferrals@shrinenet.org. Doda, can you clarify if that is where he needs to start or would having a personal connection help us? Here is Braden's story: m.newschannel9.com/news/police-999611-department-augusta.htmlHere is Braden's Prayer Page (Still under development): www.prayers4braden.com/

Not to point fingers here, but who's the dope who let a kid that young near the fire? And do the boneheads at the hospital not realize that lack of such supervision is endangering a child?

Mike and Braden's mom are not together.

It's like a friend said....how close did he already have to be to that fire before he fell in. A toddler is only so tall. They didn't even call an ambulance. They drove him in themselves. From what I understand, the mother is very defensive, stating it was just an accident and to quit pointing fingers at her...
I just don't see why he was allowed to be running around a fire to begin with. It's just too dangerous!
I don't know her personally. I just know Mike. He's a good dude. He's been trying to get custody of Braden for some time now. But some of you men know how it is, right or wrong, it's difficult for a man to get a child away from it's mother, even if the child is better off with the father. I hope this changes soon.

Sometimes I think, "Am I being overly protective of my child?" Then something like this comes out and frankly, I could give a damn less whether people think I'm over protective or not. there is such a thing as over protective, but I don't think I've made it that far yet.
I'll do my best to make the fundraiser, but if not, can you post some donation info please? Thanks.
Blame be damned at the moment, one thing is for certain , it's not the kid's fault, and the kid needs help.

Keeping a toddler at a good distance from a potentially fatal hazard is not being over protective. It's being sensible.
At 18 mos, my boy still fell down regularly and for no evident reason. There's no way in hell that I would have had him anywhere in the area of anything that might remotely be called a bonfire unless I was holding him myself and then only for a very brief time. There are plenty of non obvious hazards available without adding to them.

IMO, your best bet would be to open a PayPal account. everyone has access in one form or another that way.

Someone metioned a donation tab on Facebook and then they can just withdraw the money. I don't know what they are deciding to do. Still no word back from them.
