I know, I know... we never had any of these coolio wooden play sets when we were kids (In fact, I don't think that they were even on the market back then.) and we all managed to play in the yard and grow up to be the resonably well adjusted people that we are today . That said, Mrs Fredo and I have decided to put in a swing set, play structure type thing for little Fredo, and his impending little brother, in the Spring. They range from fairly normal swing sets with slides and a little slide platform to (no friggin kidding here) multi story play complexes that push into the six figure range. The question: Does anyone here have any experience with any of the local vendors of these things? They sell them at Sams, Lowes and Home Depot but I stopped at a place out on Lee Hwy today and theirs looked a lot better for only a little more money. Any input?

Couldn't help you here. Back in the day we bought a $129 swingset from like KMart or some el cheapo box store. Had to set it up which was fun. ;D But I'd say as cheap as it was and the many times I had to "repair" it that the kids got their $ worth. What did you end up buying?

The boy isn't really big enough to get much fun out of it yet so we don't plan to put anything in until the Spring. The one I'm looking at is in the mid range. 3 swings, slide and a picnic table underneath. I figure that the investment will be worth while if we get ten years of playtime out of it.

I'm with you Raphael. Can you imagine the safety issues that would be in place now? We used to swing so high they came off the ground. Now days that would be an automatic lawsuit!

They still sell the old metal tube swings at Wal Mart for about $150 but I still think we'll go the other way.

We have one of the wooden ones. Three swings and a fort with a slide. Seems like we paid around $900.00 for the kit from Toys R Us. I did have fun putting it together. Kids had a lot of fun on it. No major injuries. Unfortunately an ice storm a few years back caused a big branch to take it out (I got to see it happen! Awesome!) I was able to repair it back to relative newness, but now that the kids are older and don't use it, I'm ready to set it on fire.

So when the kids out grow the play structure it can become firewood for the winter!! Great Idea!

There is a place on hwy 153 across from Aarons, that sells these things too. Might want to check them out on prices.

When burned it gives off extremely toxic fumes that can kill the breather of said fumes.
