chattanoogan.com/2012/4/5/223229/Delta-Queen-May-Leave-Chattanooga-For.aspxLet's frreakin' hope so. It's a gigantic white elephant that does little beside block the view from the park. The bar is crappy. The entertainment is terrible, the food, well, haven't tried to eat there. it was ridiculous to park such a monstrosity there to begin with so et;s hope it mercifully sails away.

Never liked that boat. Had to deal with more issues from that barge than anything else back when the NMCRS was still there.
Without fail, almost every damn night, we had to have someone show up to monitor activity and make sure that none of the bums living under the bridge, who would regularly gather there, were trying to make it up the bank to the Arty station.

Great idea to get rid of something of a tourist attraction so the guards don't have to work.

A tourist attraction that didn't attract tourists…
Ohhhh but that's right… I forgot… I was in uniform at the time so I have no right to complain.

Why complain about having a job? You are welcome to complain all you want. Fredo and some others will likely thank you for the complaints. My civilian employers expect me do work without complaint. I should be thankful for any opportunity to work, and get paid when ever they feel like paying me. Next month at a minimum or it could be 6 months or more if I get paid at all. But hey, I am glad I can find WORK. You did knew what the job entailed before excepting it didn't you? Did your employer lie to you about what you would be doing?
Where did you find the stats suggesting that the Delta Queen did not attract tourists?

I knew my job was to do the things I swore an oath to do.
Find me one person that does not complain about some aspect of what they do and I will help you find their lobotomy scar.
Since the dredge was on civilian property, since it was not part of the NMCRS and since all it did was attract bums and make people get curious, and then stupid, usually with the assistance of alcohol, about what the NMCRS grounds were like and what the building looked like up close… or my personal favorites. 'We were just curious if it was abandoned or not.' followed by 'We were just curious how long it would take you guys to get here.' Ohhhhh and lets not forget the ever poplar 'We heard you guys had a nuke here.' (prompting on group to investigate our motor pool under the bridge) Then yes… I view it as more a nuisance than anything else.
Since the only time I ever saw it leave port was when it had to move to another port during a storm.
Since the only time I saw people on it, it was generally because they were trespassing.
Since I have never seen anyone doing anything on or around the boat that would in the slightest suggest that it was ever anything other than a piece of flotsam that washed up on the beach.
Since the only time I would even see people taking pics of it was from the Belle.

I think you've got the delta Queen confused with the Chattanooga Star. The marines were long, long gone before the Queen got here.
They said today that it isn't a done deal, but I'm still hoping for the best. Even if it does attract a few tourists, it still really screws up the look of the park. Move it up to Alan Casey's property and the problem is solved.

It would appear that I am indeed… So they moved another boat to where the Star was located when they made the park?

They moved the Star down under Market Street. When they, predictably, screwed that up, the dock was empty for a while and then they moved in this behemoth. It totally blocks the view from the park and I think most people would be much happier if it was sent away and replaced with something less obnoxious.

Is it anything like the Belle? Can people board her and go on trips?

Is it anything like the Belle? Can people board her and go on trips? It's about 120 feet long, 30 feet across and four stories high... and it just sits there like a great screen blocking the view of our fair city from the North shore. Having a big ole riverboat/hotel parked in the downtown area is kinda cool, but it's really in the wrong spot.

Can dig that, but if it was actually in use, I can see the attraction. I always loved the Belle but she was so small that only short trips were ever really available.
Now if this particular boat was river worthy enough to do a lock trip, or even do long river rides that took a few days to complete, WHILE being used as a hotel or dinning establishment… I could see a reason to keep that.
Memphis had (maybe still does) a few that were like that. Always loved them.

To each his own. But I thought that the Delta Queen looked better that the Chattanooga city-scape from Coolidge Park. LOL
Sarge: google images of the Delta Queen. She is well maintained.

I did right after my post.
She looks pretty decent.
More curious though as to what her normal route is.

No route at this time. Just a floating hotel reminiscent of the past.

No route at this time. Just a floating hotel reminiscent of the past. If it is just in anchor but still serves some purpose, a dining facility, a 'way back machine' for schools… I could get behind keeping it. If it is just a barnacle stockyard… then yeah… move it.
