Holy traffic jam! now what? "We don't build roads unless we have consensus with local leaders," www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/apr/17/a1-us-27-redesign-on-hold-chattanooga/Tennessee has yanked the emergency brake on the downtown half of the U.S. Highway 27 construction project.
State transportation officials have planned for five years to spend about $80 million to widen the Olgiati Bridge and rebuild the aging highway between the bridge and Interstate 24 by 2016. But the state has sent those blueprints to planning purgatory until local and Tennessee officials can agree on the details.

Seems ridiculous....and 80 million doesn't seem to be enough money for that kind of project IMO.
Something is fishy.

I suspect that it has something to do with BCBST being close to those exits along with the new condos that are going in on Riverfront Parkway. Power plays ...

Whatever is happening, they're sure moving a lot of dirt in that area. Yeah, no kidding. I have no idea why they are taking off so much of that hill.

The south side of the Olgiati wouldn't be so bad if they'd enforce the speed limits through there. I use the 9th Street & 4th Street exits onto Hwy 27 on a regular basis. The posted speed limit is 45 MPH but most are going over 60 MPH which makes it dangerous. There are skid marks all over the north bound lanes just before the bridge.

It's a terrible stretch for merging and exiting no matter how you slice it. Not only does 27 need reworking but I-24 from the 27 split to the ridge needs straightening, that would cure the daily traffic jam going eastbound. Monumental task I know, just sayin'.
