Conservatives lambast Romney, vow to take over Republican Party By Erik Wasson - 11/07/12 Conservative leaders on Wednesday lashed out at Mitt Romney, saying his attempts to paint himself as a centrist and hide his principles cost him the presidency. They vowed to wage a war to put the Tea Party in charge of the Republican Party by the time it nominates its next presidential candidate. “The battle to take over the Republican Party begins today and the failed Republican leadership should resign,†said Richard Viguerie, a top activist and chairman of ConservativeHQ.com. thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/266649-conservatives-lambast-romney-vow-to-take-over-gopWe should be so lucky. With Ryan even more conservative than Romney and not even delivering his home state? Being more conservative will win the next election? Perhaps if the Tea Party runs the Republicans more to the 'right' there will be a landslide of Democrats being elected in 2014. Who knows. Only time will tell for sure.

I guess the prominent conservatives want to double down on stupid. Some conservatives squealing and reeling in the aftermath of the election talking about starting a third party 'for true conservatives'. Man, talking about willful ignorance. Herman Cain and Rush Limbaugh types wanting to form a party of those of their ilk. I suppose they want to go ahead and be a part of a minority party before the GOP devolves fully into one, if it hasn't already. Democrat candidates have won the popular vote in five of the last six elections and the prominent conservatives still don't have a clue. 'But, as noted above, there is good old Herman Cain, former Republican Party presidential candidate who has his own media platform. He was on Bryan Fischer's radio program this afternoon. And, he was practically in tears when he called for 'conservative' Republican Party leaders to form a third, more conservative party. 'I never thought that I would say this, and this is the first time publicly that I've said it: We need a third party to save this country. Not Ron Paul and the Ron Paulites. No. We need a legitimate third party to challenge the current system that we have, because I don't believe that the Republican Party … has the ability to rebrand itself,' Cain said. Fischer fashions himself as a 'social conservative leader.' And, in fact, earlier this year he predicted that a Romney loss would prompt evangelical conservatives to finally leave the Republicans in favor of a true, hard right, third party. 'If Barack Obama wins this election the Republican Party as we know it is finished, it is dead, it is toast,' Fischer said in September at the Values Voter Summit in Washington. And then there's Rush Limabugh – always good for a pithy quote or two. Two months ago he basically agreed with Fischer: 'If Obama wins, let me tell you what it's the end of: the Republican Party. There's gonna be a third party that's gonna be oriented toward conservatism,' he said. Recall that the 'Tea Party' emerged not long after Obama's historic win and the GOP's – at the time – apparently devastating 2008 loss. The Tea Party was set to organize itself into a third party until Republican Party officials and their plutocratic backers co-opted and then folded it into the party structure. It's been all downhill for the Republicans ever since.' www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/13354154-herman-cain-calls-for-third-party-the-republican-civil-war-begins

The doubling down by the extreme right factions, is not surprising. As I recall, in 2000 and in 2004, some of the Democrats claimed the Democrat candidates were too close to center, and that was the reason for their loss. Some extreme Leftists have blamed Obama for being too close to center.
There will always be some on the fringe pulling on a party. With the closeness of last several elections, it should be obvious that nobody will get elected to president without the crossover and 'undeclared party' voters. The voters who are in the center will never be reached by an extreme candidate, Left or Right in common parlance.
