Okay…
So I got rid of McAffee on the laptop… because it sucks, I did this about a year ago.
The issue I have is that I can't get rid of all the damn registration garbage it left behind and every time I boot up I get an error message advising me of the fact that the computer cannot find McAffee… Once again proving the suckage.
I have done everything to make this go away, I have gone through the customer (lack of) support center, I have reinstalled and then removed the damn thing and I have also gone through regedit to get rid of it…
I am at my wits end…
I need HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPP
I currently use (and have for years) AVG pro…

hehe
My first suggestion is to find a "useable" copy of the program "clean sweep" on the web. There should be one or more reputable sites to which you can do this. I have a problem with Mcafee myself. I really believe that program has more cookies than hitting 50 porn sites a day. It did a number on my desktop computer. Never had a problem that it was installed , then in two days, BAM, problem after problem after problem. I am pretty sure it has to do with the firewalls, etc. everything has to be in sync with those, from your windows registery to the software. If not.............trouble that is a bitch to get back.
I will check something else for you shortly also. don't have time at the moment.

'I have a problem with Mcafee myself. I really believe that program has more cookies than hitting 50 porn sites a day.' So then you can see my issue… McAfee coupled with my porn surfing is really slowing my computer down… A LOT… I've tried a ton of reg cleaners online and so far none of them have been able to do squat to it… Hell, even their tech support couldn't get rid of the issue and told me that I would have to get a windows specialist to 'fix' whatever was wrong with my comp… I kept telling them the only thing wrong with my computer was their stupid program. Fredo: I did indeed try hitting it… in fact I went to Wal-Mart and bought the windows repair kit to try and fix this issue… it has helped a lot and I recommend it to anyone with my level of computer savvy. Here is what you are looking for:

I have felt that way on many days with my computer at work Sarg!! Keep the gun in the car and the boss would probably balk at the idea of buying me a new one. McAfee is anti-virus, right? I use the free AVG at home-no problems at all. Don't know what at work and don't really care but I know it's not McAfee.

I'm AVG as well...
The lap top came with McCrappy a year ago and I got rid of it then but have been having this issue since then and am at my wits end now.

here is a link that will help sarge, look for the post by Alice. Seems you may have some "online" products still hanging out, this thread should help take care of them: www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=14634remember, everything you delete, empty the trash bin or it may try to recover on start up

Sarge, that is one use of a firearm that is entirely justified, IMO.
McAfee is the worst piece of crap software that has ever infected any of my computers. I found myself going through the registry and deleting anything that even looked like McAfee.
I have a personal view that most of the computer viruses these days are written by the folks at McAfee, Symantec, etc. who sell the Anti-Virus programs. Who else has a vested interest in screwing with someone's computer? If there were no computer viruses, these folks would go out of business, so they must create a problem in order to solve it. Kinda like fighting terrorism in Iraq come to think of it!

The hubby and I had some of the same kinds of problems. Our solution.... We bought Macs. So far no slow downs or virus problems. But that's a bit extreme for most people.

I enjoy my imac but there's not many places locally that sell mac software. Still have the old dell and compaq though didn't go entirely Mac crazy.
