None of this sounds good. I have my fingers crossed that they catch a break. They could use one. Or two.

Unfortunately, this is what it took to turn me off of nuclear power. If the notoriously fastidious Japanese can't get it right, it simply can't be done.

The news from Japan just gets worse and worse... if you can track it down. Once in a while there's a blurb in the MSM but they're pretty tight lipped about the absolute catastrophe that's unfolding there. Here's a little update: Melted Fukushima fuel is 12 inches from entering ground after eating through concrete, says simulation — Study: Molten core suspected of eroding through concrete foundation — Gov't Expert: We just can't be sure until actually seeing inside linkFukushima Reactor Designer: I doubt plant can be decommissioned, perhaps enclose it in cement — Nuclear Professor: Solution is to pour concrete all over, but now it's too late link'Post-Fukushima Horror': Severe impacts on oceanic environment — An unpredictable amount of damage to Pacific — Fundamental to reproduction of humans — Japan's simply dumping nuclear waste into sea linkIf I lived anywhere on the West coast, I would be very seriously considering relocation... and soon.

The reactor is a GE design from the early 60's. New ones are probably better. If you want to stay on top of the situation, check this site regularly, Fukushima Accident

China just suspended shellfish imports coming from the west coast. They claim high levels of arsenic. What, found in all shellfish coming from Alaska to California? Really? I suspect it's connected to the Fukushima radioactive plume hitting the west coast. Go ahead, suspend the imports, just don't mention that it's because of the radiation that's still pouring into the ocean at its source, unabated. First ever Chinese ban

I strongly suspect that you are correct. I bought a couple of dozen cans of tuna when this all hit but it won't last forever. Dang. I'm gonna miss tuna salad.
