Hey everybody. I guess I am now the food guy. Please don't take this as me being an expert, because I'm not. I just love to cook. If anyone has recipes, suggestions, ideas or anything else, please let me know. If you post a recipe, I'll do my best to cook it and try it. (I'm already hooked up to do some enchiladas tomorrow night. ;D ) Hopefully, we can all learn something and have a good meal or two doing so. As my drill sergeant used to say, "Sit down, plate down, chow down!"

Hi to all!
I have a quick question? Has anyone tried the new progresso "Panko" bread crumbs. I love to make lemon-pepper fried chicken breaded with regular bread crumbs. I'm wondering if the panko really does add the crunch it describes.

Panko, or Japanese bread crumbs, do exactly as they advertise. they have much more of a crystalline type structure and add a good bit of crunch to food. In fact, if you look in the recipe section above, you will find a recipe for baked macaroni and cheese that uses them and the recipe is truly awesome.

Crunchy mac N cheese sounds yummy. I use extra sharp cheddar cheese & mild cheddar in my recipe. I bake in the oven until the top is crispy, so I will definately try the crunchy crumbs mixed in it! I will post the recipe for the lemon pepper fried chicken later today if I can. I'm at work right now. Kind Regards

Since this post: I've searched everywhere and can not find the Panko bread crumbs. I wonder if the stores only put it on the shelves for a short period. I'm almost desperate. Well, distraught because I was going to use those crispy crunchy crumbs in a fry chicken cook off! Progresso's "Panko" bread crumbs, anyone seen them?

Diremaker, only yesterday did I realize your post said or "Japanese bread crumbs. I hope it's the same thing. I can't take all the credit for this. So, I'll let you know if we "place" in the cook off. It's coming up Saturday.

My panko bread crumbs come in a black box with white letters that say, "Panko" and beneath that it says, "Japanese Bread Flakes" I have honestly never looked for a brand name before... they work, that's all I know.

I ordered this exact product off ebay. (.50 cents cheaper) Confirmed shipment was this morning. I just hope it's not any of that "off shelf" expired stuff. My theory is if my chicken happens to get a little cold during the cook-off, hopefully it will still be crisp-crunchy. ;D

I know of at least 5 local grocers that carry Panko Bread Flakes. Plus, ANY local Asian market will have them.

Dire, Your killing me here. Which stores and what isle do they carry it on? I've scathed the isles of 6 to 7 stores for nearly 2 months.

Once again... ANY Asian market will carry them. They are used a lot in Sushi. Both Ingle's and Food Lion carry them as well as the Super Bi-Lo and Publix You can find them either in the same section as the flour and bread crumbs or occasionally in the Asian ethnic specialty section

I've been to 2 walmarts, 2 food lion's, and 3 bi-lo's . I'll just continue to get them directly, off ebay. I dont imagine, I'll use them enough to want to stock pile. But, hey... thanks for time.

hey hey hey! I tested out the fried chicken recipe with those panko crumbs. *slobber dobber!! ha haaaa. I just might have to stock pile. Your right Waltz... I think some grocers, do hide them in goofy places. Because I've checked the sugar/flour isles. Ingles is next. Thats not to far away. And probably worth it.

they might hide them on the "international foods" aisle, if you have such aisle down there. wherever the soy sauce, chung king noodles and old el pasa is kept.
