I haven't been posting on here much because apparently our computer has a "virus". Now as I've stated before I know very little about computers. Yesterday I clicked on running and installing a video and all of a sudden that stupid "virus" protection download for money scam popped up. It says if I don't buy there sheet that my computer maybe seriously damaged. Every time I click to go somewhere this stupid message pops up. My wife has run numerous anti bug programs but to no avail. We are about to take it somewhere to pay them somebody to deal with it.

I had the same problem a year or so ago. I got some free virus scan stuff, like adaware or something online that a friend told me about.
Sorry to hear that, Raph! Hope you get it wiped out soon!

Yeah whatever it is it's a viscious annoying bugger. For the life of me I can't comprehend why people do this kind of thing. It really makes me mad. I'm all for catching these individuals and throwing the book at them.

You are one smart chick! I admire your technical knowledge. Does it come naturally or have you taken courses (degree)? I can tell you have a love for it. It's all greek to me when you get beyond the "101" of it.

haha, thank KAL, I've been around computers for probably about 20 years. It all just comes from that need I have of tearing things down to see how they are built. I learned all hacking skills I could about 15 years ago, and use to keep pretty up to date with them, just for instances such as this. It was fun. I no longer have the time, but OH how I love computers and electronics. Almost as dear as my own kids I've gone from literally tearing apart computers to see how they run, to literally tearing apart programs to find out the same. I'm mostly self taught. I still remember when Flash first came out, wow, I was like a kid in a candy store. Did all kind of things to web pages. I also taught myself to build and create programs. I love Access , which most people detest. Proboards is access based program. End user see's all the easy stuff , behind the scenes, whew, it can be a mess. One thing I will hate when I die, won't get to see how far technology took us. Hey, Raph,ya know microsoft updates this every tuesday, so they have the latest and greatest. Malware is the worse of all to try to get rid of, nasty stuff it is.

Blue, I have Norton anti virus on my computer and it is time to renew. Would you suggest staying with Norton or going with something else?

If you haven't had any problems with Norton, just stick with it, no use in changing if their aren't any problems. If you do change, then problems may arise when the new one knocks .dlls with the Norton.

Bug has been SQUASHED! It took some extras than just running the malware program. My wife says she hopes whover came up with that particular virus rots in hell.

I run Spybot S&D along with Lavasoft Ad-Aware every few days and stay pretty clean. I also use AVG, free version. However, last week a damn Trojan got through and has come back a few times. It came in in a document / text setting so I thought I picked it up here from one of the trolls.

document or text settings usually come in forms of emails, or hitting web pages that became infected. That is more than likely the cause, and not from here. That is why it is also important to remember not even to accept PMs or IMs from people you don't know. Text viruses are very easy to creat and they are hidden, so you wouldn't realize a document has it stashed. This is how alot of key loggers get placed and Credit card numbers are stolen.

That is what I'm thinking, that proboards got hit. The only forums I'm on are the local ones via proboards. I was on this board when I noticed it. I eliminated it once but was infected again a few days later. Both time I was here or CMF. Anybody else get hit in the last week or so?
