Has anybody eaten at Genghis Grill – The Mongolia Stir Fry at 138 Market Street? I looked and did not see a review for it already, hope I did not overlook it.
We went there this past Saturday night. Good stuff. You get to mix your own meal, following a recipe or making up your own. You add your protein (none for me, thank you very much - well, I did add some tofu), veggies, and spices in a bowl. You choose a sauce and have that in a separate ramekin. Go to the end, a guy asks what starch you want (brown, steamed, or fried rice, noodles or tortillas). You can tell him you are a veggie, or allergic to something and they make sure to clean off the grill. He hands you a number and you go sit down, they toss your bowl of food on a round grill and cook it up. It comes to you in a large bowl, all cooked up and yummy.
It is $8.99 for one trip, or if you want, $12.99, and you can go back several times. One bowl each was plenty for the 4 people in our group, nobody was tempted to go back for another round.
One of the people we were with had their bowl almost filled with the protein. You can put as much or as little as you want. the protein, (I guess some might be interested in what they have), was chicken, beef, pork, turkey, shrimp, cod, crab, scallops, and maybe some others. I did not pay too much attention.

It was a little intimidating the first time, but we loved it. We will definitely go back.

It was a little intimidating the first time, but we loved it. We will definitely go back. I know what you mean. I fely like a huge dork the first time too. At the end, when you select your sauce, I dipped it all over my meat and veggies like an idiot. I dropped my bowl off with the cook and he looked at me like I was the biggest dumb a$$ ever. I had no idea that the sauce goes in separate cups. However, each time I have gone, I have slightly tweaked my recipe and it even gets better every time.

He said it would caramelize. That was the only reason I did not do it as well. I want to go back and tweak my recipe as well. I ended up making mine hotter (spicy hot) than I intended. It was still good, and I really have no idea what I did that made it so hot. I suppose this is a trial and error kind of thing, with it being quite fun experimenting.
