Summer always makes me think of two fruits and trying to find the best tasting ones. Watermelon and cantalope. Have you any foods or memories that relate to specific foods and summer?

I like the fresh peaches and cream corn. It's that corn with yellow and white kernals. Boil it up. Stick some of those pins in the end. Slather some butter then salt and pepper and yum yum.

Had some cream corn Sunday, out of this world. Also, found little round watermelons at Linda's Produce. I don't like watermelon until I ate this one. I could founder myself on those little watermelons, so sweet. Anyone know what they are called?

You're right Raph....I can make myself sick on it I like it so much! Anybody ever cut up a cucumber/onion and soak it in vinegar? I love stuff that tastes sour/pickled. Time to go to the produce stand.

Corn on the cob, tomatoes, cantaloupe and cucumbers and onion that KALgirl mentioned. KALgirl, I add tomatoes and some olive oil to mine. Let it sit all day and it's gooooood!

Cukes & tomatoes & white vinegar & red onions with a little salt. Good stuff.
I had some good coleslaw the other day too.
My hubster likes get cabbage wedges slather with butter and then nuke it. He stops when the cabbage is still a little crunchy.

Slather some butter then salt and pepper and yum yum. it is the best, isn't it...? i grew up on that spending my summers in upstate NY... never found it again until about 1990, a now defunct farm in baltimore county grew it... the guy said he couldn't give it away up here... he grew it for his own family and grew the maryland silver queen corn for the masses. thing is... silver queen (white) corn sucks and i'll tell you just how bad... first time i saw someone boiling it back in 1986, she threw in a quarter cup of sugar. i said "what the hell are you doing with your corn?" and she said "sugaring it to make it sweet". one should not have to sugar corn to make it sweet. silver queen corn has no damn taste if you ask me but these baltimorons won't eat anything else.

I couldn't decide which place this belonged--the Logan's thread or here. Here won ;D I love a good charcoal grilled fillet. Go to Sam's and get a pack of their tenderloin steaks and slap them on the grill. Never had a bad one yet. They are just untrimmed fillet mignon. I thinks it's the little bit of fat that gives them so much flavor. Add a good baked tater (w/butter and sour cream) and a crisp salad with lots of raw, crispy veggies. Now that's a summer meal. I also love a good mixed melon and fruit bowl. Even add some crunchy pecan chips and a small can of mandarin oranges sometimes. I'm making myself hungry . Sounds like a plan for this weekend!!

A former MIL used to make this and it was awesome. She would use the red onions. It gets so hot and muggy in the summer it's really refreshing to eat good, cold veggie and fruit salads. I want to find a good corn salad and a pea salad.
