Hey 502, how hard is it to convert a region 1 dvd recorder/vcr combo to a multi-regional set up on both devices? I am considering having it done to a insignia dvd recorder/vcr when I taker it in for repairs in the next few weeks. Right now it plays dvds and video tapes just fine but the problem is when it turns on then you get a partly scrambled picture. I have already checked the connections and they are good.

eh, I wouldn't pay them to do this, no telling how much they would charge. Give me your model number and I will post the code for you to do it instead. You just use your remote control to change it, it's really easy. Just have to have the model number to give you the right code to do so.

it's the insignia NS-DRVCR. There is not real serial number except for this one. I hope you can find it on the list, Blue.

Try this one first: on remote press "Home" button...
go to Start and press "Enter"...
scroll down until the LOCK is highlighted...
press "0" (zero) 8 times...
you should get a message that the player is now region-free!
If that one didn't work, try this: Click the HOME button on the remote, Click the Setup page, Click Start Click TV Aspect Highlight the 16X9 wide aspect ratio Enter on remote control in this coded sequence: 1 3 9 7 1 3 9
Edit specific "Options"
Option 2: 35 (enables Divx/Xvid playback) Option 4: ff (enables VCD and SVCD Playback) Option 5: ff (enables region free (region 0) DVD playback) Option 5: 09 (enables region 1 (North America) DVD Playback) Option 6: ce (enable Insignia Brand Startup Logo on boot) Option 6: c0 (enable LG Brand Startup Logo on boot)
There is one more and it requires you loading up a data CD from the computer. If those two didn't get it, this one will. let me know if you need it.

That's what I am here for Just an FYI for everyone. ALL electronics are manufactured the same. The only difference is what they "lock" out to sell to specific regions or for a "budget" price. It would cost them a fortune to manufacture them all different. If you have a question about how to get an electronics to do something (like above) , just ask!
