Sgt, the only drawback to a winchester is that it's tube feed. Magazine fed bolt action.

Yes, the possum was hanging onto the shovel and my husband was trying to fling it off over the fence. Let me say first that recently had a skunk in the yard, and we borrowed a trap from the exterminator, caught it, and took it to the woods to release it. We don't make a habit of killing furry critters. But the possum hanging onto the shovel was more than we were willing to handle. He killed it. Between the two of you, you didn't think to just go buy a new shovel?

Between the two of us, we were too busy screaming like little girls to think! I can relate. We have had encounters with small woodland creatures too. We have a couple of families of skunks that come around and we've gotten used to them and they to us (somewhat). We were sitting on our deck late one afternoon having a cool drink with a neighbor when a mother skunk and her two young ones come to join us. I almost had to sit on the neighbor to keep her from jumping up and running around and I kept quietly telling her not to scream. The Mum kept her distance when she finally figured out we were there but the young ones (the are very cute) came right over to sniff the neighbors feet. One whiff and they scurried off to be closer to mum who lead them away. No harm, no foul. Well, how about just a light scent. Sort of like smelling the pilot light being out on a gas stove. The neighbor thought for sure we'd all get hosed and have to take a tomato juice soak. She had never been that close to a skunk in her entire life. All-in-all she found it to be an enlightening experience that I'm sure she'll talk about for years to come.

You got a sharp blade? You could have just cut the little mouses head off. You wouldn't even have to touch it. If you do it right, ever bit as effective as a bullet in the head.
