I'm considering bidding on one of these at an auction next weekend. They're all new. I have the option of a couple of versions e.g. 300 WIN MAG or a 30.06; black finish or stainless.
The package comes with a factory mounted, bore-sighted 9X40mm scope.
Any comments or insights that you can share are appreciated.
I was also considering the Remington 870 (Super Mag) until I read your review of it and will now take a look at the Mossberg and compare before deciding.

30.06 is a good weapon from Winchester… They are consistently one of the BEST makers of high caliber firearms and 30.06 ammo is one of the single easiest calibers to find…
I'd say that either route you go on that would work out… I would take the 30.06 however…
As for the Shotgun… 870's are decent… but… for capability and ease of use, recoil and accuracy… you just can't beat a Mossberg 590.

I agree on the rifle but, personally, I prefer Remington for shotguns. I always find the mossberg action a little sloppy.

I agree on the rifle but, personally, I prefer Remington for shotguns. I always find the mossberg action a little sloppy. I can empty the entire 8 rnd tube from my 590 in just under four seconds with a 90% lethal hit rate at ranges up to 25 meters. This is also the only shottie I know of that is still lethal, using 000 buck, at 50 meters. (That one I found out in combat) because the loading tray is open it is also easier to kick crappy rounds. This is also one of the more forgiving shotguns when dealing with accuracy when speed is a requirement and you just can't beat the heat shield and durable construction. 590 all day everyday and any day of the week over am 870.

Ya know... I wouldn't be able to give any info on that one... I've never even heard of it.

I agree on the rifle but, personally, I prefer Remington for shotguns. I always find the mossberg action a little sloppy. Thanks to all for the input. I took a look at LC Smith on the web. Very nice double barrel models built with quality and attention to detail. If I was a collector I'd be proud to own one. I'm looking for a pump-action model though. I'll focus on the 770 in the 30.06 and unless they're giving the 870 away, I'll look at the Mossberg in due course. (Sgt, the civilian 770 is what the Marine M40 SWS is based on, but you probably already knew that). I have an idea of cost at retail but since this is an auction just about anything can happen pricewise. Since this auction site is quite rural, more bush actually, you never know who is going to come out of the woods to bid against you. Good thing is that there are multiple copies available. I'll wish myself 'good hunting' and we'll see what happens. I'll let you know how I make out.

Mossberg's will run about the same as an 870.
I paid... $350 I think for mine and DA's 870 was around about the same price.
Now that you described the LC Smith I think I know what you are talking about, those really intricately detailed show pieces correct?
If that's the case, you can't really go wrong with something like that and they will always be a good return on your investment if you ever decide to sell it in the future.
