I ran across a news article in a medical journal that stated for every ONE soda we drink... it suppresses our immune system for FOUR hours. After looking into it a bit.. I formed the opinion that our family would benefit from not having sodas in the house. I never did as a kid. It was actually a treat.. when we went out or over to friends. So... we're down to the last PEPSI in the house. I want to drink it, but dont want to be the last one to take it. But I really want to drink it. We're all trying to be polite and test ourselves in the ability to control oneself. But I REALLY want to drink it!!! This is much harder than anticipated.

I would drink it. After it's gone, you're screwed. Someone is going to take it. Might as well be you.

I haven't drank a soda of any type in about 5 / 6 years. Only time, I might sip one, is Sprite when i am sick (rarely) My kids, may or may not , have one a week, that they have bought, but it's no big deal to me if they have one or so. Same with junk food, I've never bought it, so my kids don't miss it. Aside from chips or the norms. I don't buy bagged cookies, etc.

I've had to ween myself off them. Not to say I still don't grab one when a pizza is ordered. What would a pizza be without a coke? ;D I've replaced my coke drinking with buying 100% juices which is a lot better than drinking sodas.

I imagine it's going to get "testy"... for me round here. I drink about 1 or 2 a day. I'm not quitting totally on the sodas.. I'm just not keeping any here at the house. Gosh... no junk food in the house. No double stuffed Oreo cookies?.. wow! I have low blood-pressure so by the time the afternoon hits, I'm digging for something really sweet or one of those bad carbohydrates. It's hard to stop the sweets, especially when the hub was raised with homemade dessert or pastries, after every dinner. His grandmother would bring a pie or cake over every Sunday for him. A little at a time, I guess.. and that stuffs going too.

Caffeine Free Diet Dr. Pepper A solution. It at least gives you a "soda fix". And it doesn't taste too bad.

I like the information in this post but I am trying to keep the healthy area about food and healthy recipes, thus the move. Sorry if that upset anyone.

I gave up regular coke about two years ago and took up diet coke. Then I started reading about what nasty stuff aspertame is. Now I have an occasional fountain sprite, but lay off the stuff aside from that. I feel much better for it.

I grew up drinking tea, milk & water. Soda was a treat. When I started college, I gained 10 lbs the first year just from the daily imbibing of soda & dessert. As a rule, I don't purchase soda. I do enjoy club soda and will purchase it occasionally. It's way too attractive to the preteen for me to keep it in the house. I rarely choose it even when away from home.
I've long known that sodas are hard on the kidneys. Now I can spout off to my children that drinking that junk makes them more likely to get sick. Hurray!

My husband can take the pepsi vs. coke challenge off SMELL alone. I've been brewing up a tea storm since last week. The prob is, everyone here likes their tea a little different. So after trying to cater to the taste buds of 5 people... I've made a new house Rule. The makers choice. Dont like -- fine, more for me.

My son really started liking green tea. I just don't have the taste buds for it apparently..so, I've tried something I just found out about. Arnold Palmer, yep, he has his own tea. You golfers probably knew that or if you hang in Savannah alot. Arnold Palmer tea is sold in Publixs. What it is, is half tea, half lemonade. So, I brew my own tea, make some country time lemonade and mix half and half. Good stuff! I started making my own smoothies too. Frozen bags of mixed berries. Of course, you are suppose to use yogurt, etc...........I've been using Rum......good stuff

I'm starting to wonder if the soft drink addiction can carry symptoms of "withdraw". Seriously, my entire family feels "glum & sluggish". And we've all had sporadic (severe) headaches. Not affected, my 3.5 year old but she doesn't drink soft drinks. I know what you mean, Fredo: aspartame = danger!

Drink lots of water to flush out your systems. Orange juice is a great energy drink without any caffeine.
Caffeine is a drug just like alcohol or niccotine. The withdrawal will pass.

Try developing a taste for seltzer water. Its better to buy it in individual servings to keep the carbonation factor up. Some are flavored but they're hard to find around Chattanooga. You can flavor them yourself with different citrus fruit (I prefer lemon or orange twists instead of a squeeze. It tastes cleaner). They have very little or zero sodium and there's no sugar or sweetener in them so a 12 pack of seltzers will last quite a bit longer than a 12 of regular soft drinks. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

I am now drinking decaf tea. I still have my coffee addiction for my morning caffeine. But night is strictly decaf.

Seltzer water! Yummm.. Seltzer Water and Cranberry Juice Cocktail... BETTER STILL!
Cranberry juice is an excellent "system flush" drink. It, apple juice and apple cider are now the most common drinks here... with occasional caffein free diet dr pepper.

It's especially good for women who are having urinary tract infections and it's also good for raising your good cholestrol and overall heart healthy. I try to buy it mixed with pomegrante 100% juice. And I buy 100% apple juice at Wally World. Both good juices.
