We have this house in our neighborhood that is literally falling down. The owners grew up in the house and refuse to sell or make repairs. It is NOT livable. So it sits .. and sits... and now they've stopped keeping the grass mowed. They've just abandoned it! With all the rain last week.. the front porch fell down. It's a huge eye-soar. The neighbors along with myself are now ready to start a formal complaint. But I'm not sure who to call. Any suggestions? Btw, it's in NW-Ga.

You need to call the city or county that it's located in to lodge a complaint. They will send someone out to assess the situation.

I would start out with County Wide Services or I would call the main County number they have listed and see if they can direct you from there.

It would be the housing code enforcement. They should be part of the city code enforcement for your city.

Also, if that doesn't get them to act quickly, calling the local Health Dept will get it sped up.

How about you and some of your neighbors see if the place is for sale. Maybe you could get it real cheap, tear the place down yourselves and resell the lot maybe.

welp... I found out the owner's name. And it's not for sale because it's his old "homestead". I called him shortly before I made a call to "code enforcement". I wanted to give him the opportunity to remedy this... before calling in the "authorities". We've let this house sit here and dilapidated over the last 15 years, without saying a word. And I for one am tired of it. It kills me that this man is extremely UN willing to budge on repairs -- "he said it would cost just as much as it's worth to fix it".. And in the same breath, refused to sell it or tear it down. He said it looked like were gonna have to live with it! After listening to that ---my rear jacked up to my shoulders.... as I told him he should be ashamed of himself for not taking into consideration that other families in this neighborhood, who are not only making memories themselves... but also take pride in their homes and community -- are being forced to live with his selfish distant memory of shit-heap! Easy for him to live with it -- because he doesn't have a daily reminder of what his slothful neglect is doing for the property around his health-hazard code violating house! I mean.. the dude doesn't even come into this neighborhood. I've never seen him. He has someone else mow his grass! Anyway...my conversation with him ended abruptly after that, as he slammed the phone down in my ear. Geeeez - I bet he still uses a rotary! ;D But, I don't expect anything to happen with code enforcement. She didn't sound very enthused. I have a feeling I'm going to have to get a petition.. and start typing me some letters. *hrrrrr / heavy sigh*

Okay I'm all against code enforcements but if neighbors have asked or tried to seek honest remedy and they won't comply then I agree with taking it one step further.....
Okay not really but I'm sure the thought passed a few minds! ;D

Call the health department. Follow up with a call to the Fire Department also , about it being a fire hazard since apparently just the termites are keeping it together. Remind them all, that children live in that neighborhood. Might want to send a letter to the owner of the house also, about kids in the area. He would be liable.

Call the news if the county doesn't assist you within a reasonable time. I've seen these stories before.

Have you tried Ghostbusters?
If you're in Catoosa Co, you can call the building inspection dept. They really get their jollies on that kind of stuff. If you're in Walker, you're SOL.

I think I'll just wait and see how it goes.

All they did was make him clean the area up. (thats it)
The house should be condemned. I'm back to square one. *heavy sigh
