I read where it's the shoulder part of the ham that back in the day would have been wasted. The soldiers in WW2 ate it in their K rations. I like spam almost anyway but I'm the only one in the family that will eat the stuff. ;D

When we were kids, mom fixed "spamburgers" with all the hamburger fixin's. I don't know if it was cheaper than hamburger meat, but we ate it a lot. Fried, of course. I haven't eaten (or thought about spam in years). I may have to grill up some this weekend and recreate the "spamburger".
Thanks, Raph.

Speaking of spam again. It appears that sales of this product have gone up quite a bit recently. I wonder why? Employees are working flat out and next door the slaughter house butchers 19,000 pigs a day. 'People are realising it's not that bad a product,' said Dan Johnson, 55, who operates a 70ft (20m) oven in the factory.
Swen Neufeldt, the group product manager at Hormel Foods, told The Times: 'The Spam family of products continues to be a favourite of families across the US as evident by its continued rise in sales. Over the past three months sales have been stronger than expected.' He said that the good value of the product made it appealing in uncertain economic times but it was the 'distinct, savoury and cravable taste experience' that really mattered. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article5295544.ece

Its called "We're friggin broke and this is what we can get."
Anyone notice by the way how much it costs to eat healthy?
I want Raph to find out but I think there's a conspiracy between the medical industry and the food industry.

Its called "We're friggin broke and this is what we can get." Anyone notice by the way how much it costs to eat healthy? I want Raph to find out but I think there's a conspiracy between the medical industry and the food industry. Well I can tell you that the food industry (some) has put in specific ingredients that make you addicted to their foods to keep you coming back for more. Refined sugar ingredients is one good way. And I can tell you that the Medical Industrial Complex has supposedly supressed various cures and go after alternatives with a vengeance. The MIC kept cigarettes and their deadly poison under wraps when they knew full well for years through numerous studies what tobacco would do. I've never heard of any active collusion of the two industries as far as food cost goes but I can tell you the FDA which is primarily run by doctors and their minions have allowed all sorts of poisons into our food supply over the years. So you might make a case that they allowed this to happen and have knowingly let this stuff stay in our diets when they are the ones who should be keeping it out. Does make me wonder? $$$$$$ Maybe you could make the case that "healthy" food cost may be higher because the medical establishment can afford it and you can't. So they stay healthy and you keep them rolling in the dough. I see your point! But if you want to piece the two together I would look at the FDA that's where you will find all your "conspiracies".
