Have you received the grant money from the dual enrollment classes? Do they send this when the class is complete? What do you understand about it?

I can't remember the circumstances when my son did it. My daughter will be doing the dual enrollment next year (just a junior now). I will consult with my memory bank (wife) and let you know.

The memory bank repository (wife) came up empty, too. She said there were no grants / lottery money for high school dual enrollment when my son went through (I remember that now. He was in the first group of college students to receive lottery money). My wife says that we are going to press her honors program teacher and the guidance people at Central about this and other info. In the mean time, here is a link to the Chatt State dual enrollment web site: www.chattanoogastate.edu/Dual_Enrollment/dumain.asp

My daughter says it may be different from school to school. (East Ridge) We paid $600 up front and then towards the ends of the semester we got back $300. This was a Chattanooga State and was mainly English type classes. Two Literature, and compositions.

yeah, when I enrolled her into Chatta State for the english dual enrollment , I also had the dual enrollment grant paper work to turn in. Of course, you have to pay the fees which came to almost $800.00. Since she is taking 12 semester hours, I am suppose to be reimbursed for $600 of those fees. Since it is all through Chatt State, they do the fees, etc. I know the grant is available to any undergraduate taking classes in high school, it is not a need base, nor will it run out. They enacted this to get the kids to go for higher education and since the hope won't kick in until you graduate, they wanted someting to encourage this. I just am not sure when the reimbursement would come. I guess like you stated Raph, probably end of this semester and the end of the next. Funny thing, it says she isn't enrolled for the Fall, but I've paid all the course fee up till next Spring. I guess the high school kids throw them for a loop. She is taking 12 hours , 6 each sememster.

Blue, We heard from the high school counselor about the duel enrollment fee reinbursement. If the child is in the gifted program they will be reimbursed the fees after they have completed the course(s) with a passing grade. You may have already gotten this info. Just thought I would report in.

Yep, found this out. She has completed the first course of comp 1010, now on to the next.
She retook her ACT and was worried about English, not her strongest subject and managed to get a 27 on it!!!! HAHA, she was so excited. I was excited for her.

My daughter (a junior) just got back her ACT scores. Her weakest was also English (24). She got a 30 overall. I am going to encourage her to take it again either in the spring or next fall. She wants to enter the honors curriculum at UTK. Veterinary medicine maybe.
She is now talking about graduating next December and starting college one semester early (Jan '10). I'm not so excited about that myself. Her mother thinks it is doable. While acedemically it is, I wonder about the maturity thing and the pushing this too fast thing. I know that it is only 6 months difference, but I can't help worry that my baby might need the other 6 months to grow emotionally. What are your thoughts on this early grad. thing?

I am all for it for her............ya know us girls mature faster I wanted my daughter to do this, and she still may. She also wants to attend summer college classes so she has the chance to get a Masters earlier. Have you guys visited the UT campus lately? Make a trip up there and schedule a campus tour. It may not be what you remember. Damn nice score on the ACT, I think at a 30 overall she already has the opportunity to do "ivy league", but taking it again won't hurt. PS........if she had stayed at Tyner, top 10 in the class get auto 4 year scholarship to UT. With her grades though, like my daughters, academic scholarships are abound! Now we are just waiting to complete the paperwork in Jan. She's heading to MTSU, not sure if I am more happy or more jealous, hahaha.

MTSU is a great school. I have some friends whose kids graduated there. And, if I am not mistaken, MTSU has surpassed UTK in enrollment. We have a meeting next Wed. with her guidance councelor to discuss all these matters. We will be visiting UTK probably some time in Jan.
Thanks for the advice. And, damn, if she had only stayed at Tyner. "auto 4 year scholarship to UT"

I was blown away with MTSU, plus it's close They have surpassed UT in enrollment. Also, if you haven't checked it out, it is a one stop college. Everything the kid needs is on campus!!!! They should have the newest student center open by next spring, which is huge, kind of set up like miniature living/rec rooms in about 300,000 square feet Regular doc and womens doc on campus, accept all insurance. All the full service restaurants open 24/7. It was cool to find out, all freshman have to take a dining card. Various choices, to the various restaurants for 3 meals a day 7 days a week while you are enrolled. It is included in the tuition, so if you get a scholarship, the meals are paid for Plus, they include "bucks" on there, from $250.00 - $500.00 to be used at the laundry center, convience store, vending machines, etc. I'm not sure if that is like that at the various colleges, this is the only one I checked. I think that was an awesome idea, whoever came up with it. Takes the worry out of "is my kid eating, does he have money". With this, there won't be a need of alot of money on hand to distribute for use. I wasn't thrilled with UT. Seemed dirty and crowded, plus widely spread out. Full scholarship is a plus, but do we risk misery, ya know.
