My twin 4 year olds just put together a 100 piece puzzle by themselves. I helped them work it last night. Today, they did it themselves. I was impressed. Now they want more puzzles with lots of pieces. I guess I have a few more Christmas gifts to buy.

Read and read to them again and again. Also hooked on phonics to help them learn how to read. It works I'm telling ya!

Raph, I was a kindergarten teacher for 7 years. I worked in a Montessori school and they have all kinds of puzzles from my teaching years. I am partial to the wooden ones. Recently, they have started doing the block kind with pictures on all sides. On a whim, I bought the 100 piece puzzle. I'm glad I did too.
Most of the 5-6 year olds I taught couldn't have worked a puzzle with that many pieces. I'm very proud of them. They'll probably get a sackful of puzzles for Christmas now.
That reminds me, if anybody needs any easy board puzzles, we'll be ditching those soon so send me a PM and they're all yours!

Wouldn't a big box of non specific legos be better? YES. It gives the child a chance to use his/her imagination.

Well, Fredo, legos are good but little children get frustrated by a bunch of little pieces. I think you guys are probably right about the legos tho. It's time. We've had the big ones. I've been dreading getting any bc they are a pain to keep picked up. ;D
Currently, they have Lincoln Logs. Not as painful when you step on one. ;D

Tinker Toys are still on the market. I can't wait 'til he starts doing stuff besides eating, sleeping, pooping and screaming.

I forgot about tinkertoys. Another cool idea. My kids know better than to poke each other with them. If they don't, they'll learn real quick.
