Okay, I wanted to ask a expert but saw no category to put this in. But since it deals with my children perhaps this is the better place for it. I used to ride my bicycle regularly. Then came baby. So the boys used my bicycle and broke the dang pedal off. Every replacement (walmart pedals) ... BROKE. Eventually they used my bike for stupid jackassery stunts bent the rims, broke the handle bars, stripped the breaks. A total demolish. The hub goes out buys me a new mountain bike. I'm so excited cause we bought our daughter her first (real) bike for Christmas. And I'm thinking.. oh great, now we can go ride in the park together. Yesterday, I do down into the basement to get out my new mountain bike and guess what? ... not one but both FREGGIN' pedals are broke. I've got an 11 & 14 year old looking as if 2 deers caught in headlights. So what gives with those stupid pedals. Are bikes not being made like they used to? Top it off, we can't get the pedals off this bike! What the hay?! Does anyone have any suggestions? I remember the brothers and I doing our own repairs to our bikes. From fixing flats, brakes.. to changing seats & rims.. I refuse to buy another bike because of a pedal issue. Especially when the nubbies are still on the tires. *gggrrrrrr H E L P.

I've never even heard of a pedal breaking off a bike. They're usually atached via a half inch steel bolt.
Most pedals just screw into the cranks and can be removed with an open ended wrench, but I've never run across any of these crazy crash test pedals, so anything might happen. ;D

I've got two junk bicycles down in the basement that the kids hardly even rode. Yes they are made in China and nothing but JUNK! If you need parts or service I've used the old guy on Ringold Rd. called the Bike shop near the East Ridge Auto tune and alignment. I should clarify that the junkier ones are the cheapest ones. I paid like $89 for both and clearly got what I paid for.

I agree with Ralph...The guy at the Bike Shop practically rebuilt my ten speed. He did a great job.

Thanks.. I totally forgot about that old bike shop. I bought a $10 bike from that old man once, LOL.. @ $10 -- wow. I wonder if he just sells parts. I want stainless or some type of heavy metal pedals. I'll call him. That other store on Ringgold Rd. is too expensive. (IMO) One of my son's has a Haro bike and parts are outrageous. Probably why he's riding mine. eh? ;D Anyway, the hub says the bolt has to be heated up with a torch & maybe some type of pipe wrench. Jeez.. this crazy. * hassle *hassle. He doesn't sound to 'thused about it either. Whelp, from now on.. I'm checking the pedals, before ever purchasing another bike around this house. Just disappointed.
