Okay, I have a dvd player & a gaming system. they both have the 3 RCA conncetors. I only have one set of RCA ports on my television. This means that if we want to use the gaming system, we have to disconnect the dvd & vice versa. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to have them both plugged in at the same time?

Get a switch box from Radio Shack.

Using the composite RCA connection from a DVD to a TV is just wrong! Sounds like mama needs a new HD TV.

yep, the RF link is the best for this. I'm thinking years ago, I had it going through the DVD player and then from that into the TV. Just get the RF link though, you will have more uses for it.

RF connector? Yikes, that's even worse than the composite RCA inputs. Ideally you'd like a TV with HDMI, component, or at least S-Video inputs, but it looks like Copper is stuck with the old switchbox for the analog RCA connectors. Must be an old TV. Just remember that anything you put in the signal path (such as switchboxes) has the potential to degrade the signal.

Your DVD player may have RCA input. If so you can run the game system through the player.

My dvd player came with rca lines, so that's what I've been using. I'm going to look at the back of the device to see what other options I can employ. Thanks to all of your for your input. I haven't devoted much time to this yet but don't want to get anyone frustrated at our house with our current setup.

If you have a new HD TV, then you have plenty of RCA hookups. I wouldn't bother hooking the video game via the HDMI ports, not enough games are recorded in HighDef to make a difference, plus lag on some games can be a killer. Svideo would be OK, just a one port kind of operation. I would make sure , though, that if the DVD player was HDMI plug capable, i would use one, much better sound and picture. Especially tell the difference in the sound, and it is wonderful when you have surround sound system added.

My hdmi port is being used by my satellite. There are other ports...I just need to take the diagram with me to radio shack and explore my options.

There are actually two types of RCA inputs. There is the old "Composite" type with the Yellow, Red, and White for Video, Right & Left channels of audio.
But your TV may also offer "Component" video where there are three RCA inputs just for the video signal. This gives a better picture. Of course, you'd still need to hook up stereo audio cables thru the TV's audio input.
HDMI is a simpler connection that combines all of this into one cable. It is the preferred method, assuming your TV has enough HDMI inputs.

FYI,,,,,,,,,,,,,buy your cables on the internet, never, ever buy them in the store, they are priced about 100% markup. Stores make a killing on them.
I've never really ran across too many "connector" sites that sold shoddy cable connectors. If you have an optical port, I would also purchase a cord for it. I have the optical run to my stereo amplifier and wow, what a difference in sound. Light sources send excellent signals.

LOL! I was about to support your argument as I just looked at the BestBuys website myself and saw their $30 cable.
I bought my last HDMI cables from monoprice.com but harborFreight has them even cheaper.
Monoprice.com carries a wide-range of hard-to find stuff so it's a good source to know, as well.
Now let's look at the 8ft HDMI cables with the Gold Plated Connectors: Monoprice: $11.80 Best Buys: $129.99 (Monster cable)
Can you say "Rip off?"

That is funny! It is a rip off. But a lot of people don't know any different.
I used to use monoprice as well, but since HF is here is town, I just go there.

Go to the thrift store and buy your cables if you need extras. They are much cheaper there. That big thrift store out on Lee Hwy has tons.
As to the price of cables...I managed a radio shack for a while. Cables are marked up substantially.
