Had a good sugarbaby a week ago and went back to Lindas produce on Ringold Rd. and bought a regular seedless and took it home and cut it open and it had seeds and had almost zero sweetness and looked orange on the inside. Dang it I hate taking stuff back but if I'm going to pay frikkin $5 for one it better taste really really good. So I took it back and the owner came over and cut some out of the middle and he said sorry it tastes real sweet to me and gave a bite to a cashier standing nearby and she said the same damn thing so I took another bite and it tasted just as bad as the others I tried at home. Anyways he told her to give me my money back and she did. But to stand there in front of many people and say what he did really pissed me off. Guess he doesn't like getting returns. Would you take back a melon that cost $5 or am I in the wrong here and how do you pick a great tasting watermelon?

I would have taken it back too. We bought one last week that was supposed to be seedless but it wasn't. But it tasted real good, so we didn't take it back.

a) You are absolutely not wrong to take back an inferior product for exchange or reimbursement for whatever the cost. I would have to evaluate how much time, effort, and gas it would cost me to get the refund, though. b) I wouldn't know how to pick out a good watermelon. I don't really like them. They tend give me indigestion.

It was/is awesome and cheaper than the striped ones. That is now my melon of choice. Never had any problem with the employees there. They will show you how to pick a good melon. I got an awesome cantaloupe too. The guy that travels all over to get the fresh produce told me before I got home that I had good ones. I asked about Honeydew's and he said he hadn't found any good ones yet. I had the best tasting one yet in a fruit bowl at the Dockside cafe last week. I hate it that the Hwy 58 location closes down part of the year. I'm told the one on Ringgold Rd. is open all year...

No, I wouldn't take it back. This has happened and I threw it away. That was before I learned that the secret to making sure a watermelon is sweet is to let it sit on the counter for a couple of days and then put it in the fridge. I haven't had a bad watermelon since I started doing that. Same thing for other melons... I also thump and listen for the hollow sound.

Produce guy at Bi-Lo told me to look for a large yellowish brown spot on the bottom which means it has been laying out in the fields longer to ripen.

The Bi-Lo on Ringgold Ooltewah Rd. has some monster watermelons... and they are on sale for like $2.98. Just got one earlier tonight and it was pretty darn good.

Look for the yellow/brown spot and it should also have a little hump or bulge where that spot is.
