Raph, have you heard much about chia seeds? I have been looking into them, after hearing about the nutritional benefits. Went out and bought some, just to test it out.
Just thought you might have an opinion on them, since you know about this kind of stuff.

LOL, I think they are the one and the same, but I have read that this is a good "super food". healthmad.com/nutrition/the-health-benefits-of-the-chia-seed/from the article: What makes the Chia Seed the super food that many claim it to be?
•30% of the chia seed's oil is Omega 3 oil. 40% of its oil is Omega 6 oil. This provides the nice balance those who take supplemental Essential Fatty Acids are looking for. The chia seed's substantially dense percentage in alpha-linolenic fatty acid also makes this seed a healthy dietary source of fatty acids.
•The chia seeds are great for athletes because they are highly hydrophilic. Being hydrophilic means it absorbs large amounts of water. Chia Seeds can absorb over 10 times their weight in water making them a great enhancer in hydrating our bodies. They absorb the water we drink holding it in our system longer.
•Studies show that eating chia seed slows down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrate calories into simple sugars. This leads scientists to believe that the chia seed may have great benefits for diabetics.
Chia seeds provide antioxidant activity

I got some today and threw it in a drink like they suggested. It was a bit odd drinking it, but it was fine. I am probably going to throw it in my greek yogurt, that needs all the help it can get - blech. Right now I throw flax seed in it, just to make it palatable.

I've heard of chia seeds I think they're right in there with hemp and salba. People have really been turning onto Salba lately. Also sounds like something akin to flax seeds or oil. You really want a good healthy product and that is the best whey protein you can find. I can guarantee you that you will feel the difference by taking 2 or 3 scoops a day. What exactly is your objective for taking chia?

I do the whey protein, have been doing that for a few years now. Since I don't eat meat, I make sure to get protein.
As far as the chia, I have been putting flax in my greek yogurt, as that is the only way I can eat it. Gives it some texture. I was getting more flax and saw the chia and was checking out info on it.
As far as my objective, I am just trying to eat healthier and it seemed like a pretty good option. I have gotten back to running, ran 3.1 miles 4 days this past week. I think I am going to start a training program for a half marathon, and I understand this is good for that, due to the water content.

Introducing any new superfood into your system has to be dealt with on a case by case basis. Some people might react differently or none at all. Make sure to take a real GOOD multi vitamin. A real good fish oil or cod liver oil. You might want to make sure your getting the proper amounts of Vitamin D because most people are severly deficient. Most doctors nowadays will include the levels in a blood test. I take an extra D3 @ 5000mgs. DR Aisa says most of our problems can be corrected by the foods we ingest and I agree and that is the most important. Sounds like your on the right track. Make sure if your taking a whey protein that it is free of all bovine chemicals and make sure if it has a sweetner that it is sometheing like steviaand not fructose or any of these new substitutes that are alcohol sugars. I've never tried chia seeds but they sound like some good stuff.

Thanks for the input. I will check out the whey, I have not really looked at the sweetner in it. I use this brand and buy it at Nutrition World. You can buy it online cheaper though but I don't like credit or debit cards and I like to buy local. Natural Factors is the best I've found it's expensive but it is sweetened with stevia........ www.vitacost.com/Natural-Factors-Whey-Factors-Double-ChocolateThat's just a sample website so if you do decide to buy it and online you might find it cheaper somewhere else. I've also started experimenting with creatine to see how that works.
