Okay, now that you are back from your awesome vacation (I am jealous), I need some help. My computer is making me nuts. Of course, it is my own fault.
I had Acrobat Pro version 7, I installed Pro version 9. I did not really like 9, had never had a problem with 7, so I decided I wanted to go bact to 7. I did a restore - I think oops on that. Ever since that time, whenever I open ANYTHING, the Windows Installer box pops up. It says "preparing to install" and I can do nothing for anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute while that damn window is popped up. When it closes, after having done nothing, I can go along on my merry way.
This happens if I open My Computer, if I open MS Word, Excel, etc., if I open IE. Once the program, or even My Computer opens, it is all good. If I close them, reopen right away, I have to sit there and wait. I can no longer do a system restore, that is all gummed up as well.
Sigh. I can still function, but it is annoying, so I find myself on the computer less and less. Which may not be such a bad thing.
Any thoughts?

couple of things you can try. Re-install the version you un-installed. Probably doing a restore kept a registry open, hence the "preparing to install". Registries don't always come clean on restores, they seem to stick around sometimes. After you install, then do an uninstall on the program. You could always try the Windows Installer Clean up utility - support.microsoft.com/kb/290301BUT read the warnings on that. As a last resort, you will probably have to wipe your hard drive clean and reload Which isn't actually as bad as it use to be with the handheld backup drives now

I will try to find my version 7 disk and do an install. That would make windows installer pop up on everything? I looked into the Windows Installer utility. I think I tried it, and it would not install.
What is this handheld backup drive that you speak of? The problem is, if I format and reinstall windows, I will lose my autocads that I have installed. I have the disks, but I don't work for the company anymore, so I would not be able to register them again.

So I have several of the external drives here. I have files backed up, things like that, in case I ever lose my computer, I still have the files. But I would not be able to replace would be the acad programs, as I could not register them if I had to reinstall. If it comes to that, it comes to that, but so far, I can live with the annoyance of the windows installer for a couple of minutes versus losing my acad programs.
